On 1 and 2 October 2026, the editorial team of the journal *Privacy in Germany* (PinG) is once again hosting a workshop for early-career professionals in data (protection) law in Berlin. The event will take place at the offices of HÄRTING Rechtsanwälte.
The workshop is aimed at young academics, trainee lawyers, those starting their careers and anyone else interested in current issues relating to data (protection) law. The focus is on professional exchange, discussing current developments and the opportunity to present one’s own topics, theses or research questions.
Anyone wishing to give a presentation to a young specialist audience, discuss theses from a doctoral project or further develop a research question for an essay is welcome to submit a contribution. We are happy to publish outstanding contributions in PinG following the workshop.
Theme for 2026: “What’s new? – Recent developments in data (protection) law”
Whether it be reform proposals, technological developments or new rulings by the European Court of Justice: the choice of topic is open. Links to other areas of data and IT law are also welcome, provided there is a connection to data protection law.
Possible questions include, in particular:
- What legal challenges do new technologies such as quantum computing or neurodata present?
- Is the Digital Omnibus a curse or a blessing for the further development of data protection law?
- What reforms is the DSK proposing as part of the ‘Digital Fitness Check’, and how should these be assessed?
- What current developments are shaping data protection case law, for example following decisions such as ‘Brillen Rottler’ or ‘Russmedia’?
- What impact would a reform of data protection supervision and the centralisation of supervisory powers at federal level have?
These questions are provided for guidance only. Participants are expressly welcome to propose their own topics relating to data protection law.
