AI has long since become established in many companies – yet numerous questions remain regarding its legally compliant and controlled use. Two practical training sessions organised by ALSO Switzerland on 3 and 10 December 2026 in Emmen will demonstrate how companies can introduce AI applications in a structured manner and manage them effectively. In the morning, Nicole Beranek Zanon will examine the legally compliant implementation of AI; in the afternoon, Cornelia Mattig will demonstrate how an AI policy can be turned into a functioning governance framework.

Cameras, radar sensors and AI can detect falls and alert care staff. However, when technical assistance is used in bedrooms, patient rooms or other private areas, the stakes are particularly high. The EDÖB and privatim set out the limits imposed by data protection law in a new guide. For hospitals and care homes, this means above all that surveillance must not become standard practice – and data protection must be taken into account right from the stage of procuring the technology.

Smartwatches have long been part of everyday life in the office. Smart glasses now represent a new generation of wearables that carry cameras, microphones and AI functions directly on the body. This creates new risks for organisations: confidential conversations can be recorded, people can be filmed without their knowledge, and data can be transferred to external clouds. The FDPIC warns of the data protection risks posed by wearables. Organisations should therefore check whether their existing data protection and IT policies are still adequate.

Swiss companies want to finally move artificial intelligence (AI) beyond the pilot phase. Yet, when it comes to scaling up, of all things, data protection, cloud contracts, copyright, employee data and the EU AI Act quickly become stumbling blocks. The good news is that companies do not have to wait for the announced amendments to Swiss legislation. Those who translate the existing rules into a functioning AI governance framework today can combine innovation with legal certainty.

The 2021 updated edition of *Responsible AI: A Global Policy Framework* further develops ITechLaw’s global framework for the responsible use of artificial intelligence. The publication explores eight key principles of responsible AI in greater depth – including ethical purpose and societal benefit, accountability, transparency and explainability, fairness and non-discrimination, safety and reliability, open data and fair competition, data protection, and intellectual property. The framework is complemented by a Responsible AI Impact Assessment Tool, which helps organisations assess risks and develop appropriate mitigation measures.

The Green Paper ‘Responsible AI: The EU AIA’ analyses the draft EU Artificial Intelligence Act from the perspective of responsible AI governance. The policy analysis, published by ITechLaw, compares the regulatory approaches of the EU AIA with ITechLaw’s Responsible AI Principles and assesses key requirements relating to transparency, risk management, accountability and compliance. The publication is the result of an international collaboration involving 34 lawyers from 32 law firms across 14 jurisdictions and provides a well-founded assessment of European AI regulation within a global context.
